UTU is Finland’s second-largestmultidisciplinary university. The UTU team will bring deep expertise in the regulation and improvement of photosynthesis in cyanobacteria, cell immobilization, and solid-state photosynthetic cell factory development, as well as photobioreactor design and operation, and solar chemicals and fuels production.
Nantes U’s laboratory is highly skilled in photobioreactor (PBR) engineering and developing intensified thin-layer PBR systems. This expertise is crucial in S2B for improving the efficiency of microalgae-based production processes, enabling enhanced scalability and performance of bioreactors for industrial applications. Nantes U is also skilled in controlling and optimizing light-driven bioreactions, analysing light and mass transfer in reactors, and optimising biological systems through metabolic flux analysis, energy analysis, and biological regulatory modeling, and integrating unit operations for enhanced industrial applications.
At the forefront of this work is Prof. Hudson’s lab, specializing in the synthetic and systems biology of cyanobacteria. KTH is a leader in: (1) 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚, (2) L𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐑 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 and (3) 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐢-𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐳𝐲𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. This combines deep learning, high-throughput screening, and sequencing to produce rich datasets of fitness scores for thousands of mutants—accelerating enzyme optimization like never before!
ÅAU is a Swedish-language, multidisciplinary academic institution in Finland. The research team’s primary objective is to promote sustainable, resource-efficient, and multipurpose use of biomass in various products here as functional materials possessing tailored geometry and functionality with assistance of additive manufacturing (3D printing).
